Work to design a new indoor stadium for Lakes Entrance is starting, and East Gippsland Shire Council wants locals to help shape it. If you are passionate about sport, community spaces, or simply want to have your say, expressions of interest are now open to join the Project Reference Group (PRG).
Lakes Entrance Amateur Basketball Association, Lakes Entrance Tennis Club, Bairnsdale Soccer Club (futsal), Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association (LEADA) and Sport and Recreation Victoria (funding body) have each been asked to nominate a representative.
An additional five community positions will round out a diverse and representative panel. Expressions of interest are now open for the five additional positions, and Council is looking for community members who are keen to contribute a community or recreational perspective to this design work.
The PRG will play a key role in the detailed design development, providing input on local needs, helping evaluate design options and ensuring the stadium design reflects the aspirations of the community.
Mayor Cr John White encouraged community members with a passion for community infrastructure and inclusive spaces to put their hand up.
“This is a major project for Lakes Entrance, and we want to make sure it’s guided by the people who will use it,” John said.
“The Project Reference Group will give locals a genuine opportunity to help shape the stadium’s design.
“This stadium will be a centrepiece for sport, recreation and connection in Lakes Entrance. Getting the design right means listening to a wide range of voices – and that starts now. A completed design will enable us to apply and advocate for funding to build the stadium.”
The design contract was awarded to ARCH, a specialist sports infrastructure studio, at the Council Meeting held on 18 February 2025. Some $800,000 in funding for the design was provided via Sport and Recreation Victoria, with Council also contributing.
PRG applicants must be able to attend regular meetings throughout the design development period and be willing to represent broader community interests.
Expressions of interest close at noon, Tuesday 30 July 2025. PRG membership will be confirmed in early August 2025, and all applicants will be contacted directly. The PRG will be active until the design is complete.
Council will keep the community updated and engaged throughout the design phase.
Applications for the PRG role can be submitted via YourSay East Gippsland, by emailing feedback@egipps.vic.gov.au or by calling 5153 9500.
