Seeking approval to extend the contract for bituminous sealing in East Gippsland for 12 months to June 2025, with Cranes Asphalting & Bitumen Sealing Pty Ltd.

The purpose of this procurement is to create a new contract to replace the previous contract CON2019 1262 Sealed Road Rehabilitation of Various Roads which expired June 2023. The current delivery of these services is quoted on an ‘as required’ basis. This contract is for the maintenance and improvement of Council’s sealed road network. Road rehabilitation works are undertaken to ensure the ongoing integrity of the road pavement and safety of the travelling public across the shire.

Council secured funding through the Australian Government for the upgrade and redevelopment of Marine Parade in Lakes Entrance. The project area extends from the entry roundabout at Marine Parade and the Princes Highway along to the Barkes Avenue intersection. It should be noted that the Barkes Avenue intersection has been removed from the scope to further develop parking options for this area.

Road safety upgrades along Myer Street, Lakes Entrance, aim to enhance drainage, pedestrian access, and parking, with community input considered.

The purpose of this procurement is to secure the services of an experienced contractor to carry out these repairs, based on recent investigations conducted by marine engineering consultants.

Tender proposals were sought for this Schedule of Rates service contract for the provision of mechanical, hydraulic, and sundry repair services for Council’s mobile plant. It is anticipated that the expenditure will be approximately $185,000 per annum. The contract is for a three-year term with the option of one twenty-four-month extension.

Council currently carries out tree maintenance activities utilising an in-house crew. At times, Council engages qualified contractors to complete works that are beyond the in-house crew’s capabilities, such as confined aerial tree removal and higher Elevated Work Platform works. It is also more efficient to utilise contractors in more remote areas. This panel of contractors is set up for unforeseen circumstances e.g. storm events and peak periods, allowing for streamlined access to contractors. The contractor will be selected based on price, availability, and capability.
