A $1.02 million project in Lindenow South will improve the safety of pedestrians and link the town’s key facilities.
The project will see 650 metres of concrete footpath and elevated boardwalk constructed on Lindenow-Glenaladale Road, between Ives Road and Upland Street, and on Fernbank-Lindenow South Road.
The East Gippsland Shire Council project will provide a crucial pedestrian link between the Lindenow South Recreation Reserve and the primary school. As part of the works, the bus shelters will be replaced and the bus parking bays will be upgraded.
Mayor Cr Mark Reeves said the project is a high priority for the local community.
“The Lindenow district is a thriving horticultural and agricultural region which sees agricultural machinery and heavy vehicles use the area’s main roads.
“Lindenow-Glenaladale Road is a key route to and from the highway. The primary school and recreation reserve are also located on this road. Council and the community have seen a need for a path on this route for some time, so it is fantastic to see it come to fruition,” Cr Reeves said.
“We are very pleased to have received a significant contribution of $500,000 from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.”
This project will complement upcoming works at the recreation reserve’s oval, where Lindenow South’s sports teams will benefit from a lighting upgrade.
Council successfully applied for $237,500 for the Lindenow South Recreation Reserve Oval Lighting Project through Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Country Football Netball Program.
The project will upgrade lighting including upgrading the power supply and installing four 25m lighting towers for the oval, which will use LED globes.
Lindenow South is home to the only women’s AFL team in the municipality.
The footpath project is expected to be completed in September 2023. A start date for the lighting upgrade is not yet known, as the funding was only recently announced.
