Date of Issue:

Orbost Skate Park is set for an upgrade commencing in April with purpose-built shade sails and seating to make the area more user friendly and sun safe environment for families, scooter riders and skaters.

The upgrade works are supported by Drought Relief Communities Program Extension funding of $30,000 and is expected to be completed by the end of April.

East Gippsland Shire Council Mayor Cr Mendy Urie said the skate park provides a space for fun and healthy activity for all ages that love to skate and scoot and is an additional drawcard for visitors.

“The new skatepark was launched in March 2018 with local skaters and young people consulted about the park’s design to ensure it would meet the needs of skaters of varying skill levels,” Cr Urie said.

“This upgrade will be an inviting place for families while they sit and watch their young children scoot, skate and have fun.”

Amber Wade from the Orbost Kids Club said the community loves using the facility.

“The shade sails will be a great addition and will make the space more inviting and sun smart. My kids love the skate park and it’s an important healthy activity for young people in the town,” she said.
