Road naming proposal – Ariel Place Lakes Entrance
Date of Issue:
September 4, 2024

Council is proposing to name an unnamed laneway in Lakes Entrance ‘Ariel Place’.

The location and extent of the road proposed to be named is shown below:

The extended community is invited to provide feedback on this proposal.

Background

We received a request to name this unnamed laneway so that we can allocate street addressing along here in the future.

Owners of land along the laneway were given two road names from our road name database to choose from. Ariel Place was chosen as the preferred road name.

The above proposed road naming adheres to the Naming rules for places in Victoria– Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities 2022 (the Naming Rules) and Australian New Zealand Standard for rural and urban addressing AS/NZS 4819:2011.

Link to place

The Screw Steamer – Ariel 2 was built in Bairnsdale in 1885 and begun operating as a trading vessel on the Gippsland Lakes. The Ariel 2 also operated as a tow vessel, towing larger vessels across the bar at Lakes Entrance until it was deregistered in 1916.
