Council is proposing to name an Unnamed 73 Roadin CLUB TERRACE ‘Bullwheel Crescent’.

Background

Council is in the process of naming all currently unnamed public roads within East Gippsland.

This proposal is to name Unnamed 73 Road CLUB TERRACE. Property owners were presented with two potential road names from Council’s road name database and Bullwheel Crescent was chosen.

Club Terrace was once a ‘timber town’, with three sawmills still operating in the 1980’s when the forests of Orbost and Cann River districts were producing more than half the state’s hardwood.

Sleeper cutting using swing saws was also a common milling activity in the area. We are proposing to name the road after equipment used in the timber industry to preserve some of this rich history.

Bull-wheels are the larger pullies in some of the winch systems used to drag logs from the bush.

The above proposed road naming adheres to the Naming rules for places in Victoria– Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities 2022 (the Naming Rules) and Australian New Zealand Standards for rural and urban addressing AS/NZS 4819:2011.

Submissions

This proposal complies with the Naming rules for places in Victoria – Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities – 2022.

Affected property owners/ratepayers/occupiers have been consulted regarding the renaming proposal and now Community members are invited to respond to this proposal before its formal consideration by the Registrar of Geographic Names Victoria.
