Council is proposing to name an Unnamed Road in WY YUNG ‘Caitlyns Lane’.
The location and extent of the road proposed to be renamed is shown below:
The extended community is invited to provide feedback on this proposal.
Background
Council received a proposal from Caitlyn Fischer’s family to name an Unnamed Road in Wy Yung, ‘Caitlyns Lane’. The proposal included extensive evidence linking the name to the place, and of Caitlyn’s standing in the community (Principles ‘C’ & ‘I’ of the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria).
Council has investigated this proposal and confirms that the Fischer family have lived in the immediate area for more that a century. Caitlyn was an outstanding student, both academically and athletically, representing her school in various sporting disciplines. She was a peer support leader and made herself available to assist at junior sporting events.
Caitlyn was talented horse rider. Years of practice and hard work saw her being selected for the Equestrian Victorian, Junior Eventing Squad, where she was very successful. At the age of 19, while competing in the Sydney International Horse Trails in 2016, Caitlyn tragically died in a horse-riding accident.
A coroner’s inquest into Caitlyn’s death made 31 recommendations to improve safety in Equestrian sports. Equestrian Australia appointed a National Safety Officer to work through and implement each of the recommendations, creating a safer environment for competitors locally, statewide, and nationally.
Cailyn’s positive impact on the community and people around her is evident by the awards that have been created to honor her.
