Council received a request to rename the road due to the name potentially causing offence to community members.
Council officers investigated this matter and concluded that the name could be offensive to members of the community. The Office of Geographic Names Victoria supports Council’s decision to rename the road.
Property owners were presented with two potential road names from Council’s road name database, and Laurina Way was chosen.
The road naming theme for this development is native trees, Tristaniopsis Laurina is an Australian native water gum. It usually grows near the eastern coastline and along banks and streams.
The above proposed road renaming adheres to the Naming rules for places in Victoria– Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities 2022 (the Naming Rules) and Australian New Zealand Standard for rural and urban addressing AS/NZS 4819:2011.
This proposal complies with the Naming rules for places in Victoria – Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities – 2022.
Affected property owners/ratepayers/occupiers have been consulted regarding the renaming proposal and now Community members are invited to respond to this proposal before its formal consideration by the Registrar of Geographic Names Victoria.
