Council is proposing to rename a short, non-contiguous section of Gold Ring Road LAKES ENTRANCE ‘Ocean View Parade’.
The location and extent of the road proposed to be renamed is shown below:
Background
Council has an obligation in accordance with the Local Government Act 1989, the Geographic Place Names Act 1998 and associated guidelines to ensure public safety and responsible service delivery to the community. Where Council identifies the potential for confusion and risk to public safety, Council must take steps to rectify the situation.
Council was made aware of confusion being caused by Gold Ring Road being a non-contiguous road (two separate navigable sections). Recent weather events have highlighted this issue and compelled Council to correct this problem.
The short western section of Gold Ring Road can only be accessed via Ocean View Parade. Council is proposing to rename this section of road Ocean View Parade. This will form a logical contiguous road that is linked from start to finish, allowing for logical addressing and removing confusion.
The above proposed road naming adheres to the Naming rules for places in Victoria– Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities 2022 (the Naming Rules) and Australian New Zealand Standards for rural and urban addressing AS/NZS 4819:2011.
