Road renaming proposal – Old Mcleinster Road to Old Mt Leinster Road, Benambra.
Council is proposing to rename Old Mcleinster Road BENAMBRA to Old Mt Leinster Road.
The location and extent of the road proposed to be renamed is shown below
The extended community is invited to provide feedback on this proposal.
Council received enquiries from a community group and Benambra residents regarding an historical spelling mistake concerning Old Mcleinster Road, Benambra.
After some investigation, Council officers were able to determine that the road was originally named Old Mt Leinster Road. Also, Mount Leinster is a geographic feature in the Benambra area, therefore linking the name to the place (Principle ‘C’ of the Naming Rules).
Along with the evidence supporting the name Old Mt Leinster, there is no evidence of any features or current and past residents linked to the name Mcleinster in the Benambra area.
The above proposed road renaming adheres to the Naming Rules for places in Victoria – Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities 2022 (the Naming Rules) and Australian New Zealand Standards for rural and urban addressing AS/NZS 4819:2011.
This proposal complies with the Naming Rules for places in Victoria –Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities – 2022.
Affected property owners/ratepayers/occupiers are being consulted regarding the renaming proposal and Council will advertise the results of this consultation in due course.
Community members are invited to respond to this proposal before its formal consideration by the Registrar of Geographic Names Victoria.
